Meet the Governors

Daniel Hargreaves

This is my second Headship and it is a pleasure to be the Head Teacher of Balladen Community Primary School on the next stage of its journey. Since 2017, I have also benefitted from the ability to share good practise through my role as parent governor at a primary school in Burnley. I live in Lancashire with my family. If I have any spare time, I enjoy reading, going to the gym and playing guitar.

David Magrath

I live in the Rossendale valley with my wife and two children.

I am a senior leader in the Home Office with national responsibility for combatting organised abuse of the immigration system by criminal networks. A significant part of this involves the protection and safeguarding of vulnerable migrants who have been exploited. My role involves many core management functions that are applicable to being a school governor such as the efficient management and allocation of resources, performance and risk management and working in collaboration with others (across government).

In my spare time, I am an enthusiastic but fairly average social golfer and enjoy a membership at Rossendale Golf Club. I will watch most sports but especially football, rugby and golf however, I no longer have control of the television and often have to settle for Thomas the Tank Engine.

I am delighted to have joined the school governing board and look forward to working with the Head, his team and the other governors to maintain the already high standards at Balladen CPS.

Carol Peat

I am a mother of three and live in Rossendale.  I started my career in education at Leabrook Short Stay School in 2002 and then joined the Schools Finance Team in 2006.  I started as School Business Manager at Balladen Primary in July 2011 and enjoy my job very much.  I have recently completed my Level 5 in School Business Management.  My oldest child is a qualified electrician, my middle child is an inspection Engineer, and my daughter is a newly qualified teacher.  In my spare time I enjoy walking with my dog Lillie, swimming and cooking.

Katrina Gilmore

I have lived locally all my life and I am the parent of a child who attends Balladen. I work for a busy international airport and I am also in the process of completing a medical degree, enabling me to work in a hospital setting. My daughter required specialist help from the school with regards to her speech therapy and this was a reason for me wanting to be a governor, helping to keep these high standards from the school for all children.

On the rare occasion I get some spare time I enjoy reading and gaming.

Laura Walker

I am a busy mother of 4 children, 2 of which attend Balladen. I became a governor to help and maintain the high quality of education and to make a difference to each and every child. I am very passionate about making a difference to the lives of children and ensuring they have the very best opportunities throughout their time at Balladen. In my spare time I have a flock of chickens and two lambs and I am currently in progress of setting up a community learning area for children in the local area where by they will be able to experience the animals, and be able to learn how fruit and veg is grown by being in an outdoor setting. If I can make a difference to any child's life, how ever small, I will be extremely happy.

Christine Haworth

Although I do not live in Rossendale I am very pleased to be a governor at Balladen.

I currently work as a school adviser with Lancashire. Previously I have been the substantive Headteacher of two Lancashire Primary Schools and acted as seconded headteacher in three others. I believe that all children can be successful both as learners and as people; I am committed to doing the best I can to help secure this for the children of Balladen.

In my spare time, I am an enthusiastic reader of historical novels; enjoy solving cryptic crosswords and spending time with my grandson.
