Meet the Governors

Daniel Hargreaves

This is my second Headship and it is a pleasure to be the Head Teacher of Balladen Community Primary School on the next stage of its journey. Since 2017, I have also benefitted from the ability to share good practise through my role as parent governor at a primary school in Burnley. I live in Lancashire with my family. If I have any spare time, I enjoy reading, going to the gym and playing guitar.

Carol Peat

I am a mother of three and I live in Rossendale.  I started my career in education at Leabrook Short Stay School in 2002 and then joined the Schools Finance Team in 2006.  I started in my role as School Business Manager at Balladen Primary in July 2011 and I enjoy my job very much.  I have recently completed my Level 5 in School Business Management.  My oldest child is a qualified electrician, my middle child is an inspection Engineer, and my daughter is a primary school teacher.  In my spare time I enjoy walking with my dog Lillie, swimming and cooking.

Katrina Gilmore

I have lived locally all my life and I am the parent of a child who attends Balladen. I work for a busy international airport and I am also in the process of completing a medical degree, enabling me to work in a hospital setting. My daughter required specialist help from the school with regards to her speech therapy and this was a reason for me wanting to be a governor, helping to keep these high standards from the school for all children.

On the rare occasion I get some spare time I enjoy reading and gaming.

Laura Walker

I am a busy mother of 4 children, 2 of which attend Balladen. I became a governor to help and maintain the high quality of education and to make a difference to each and every child. I am very passionate about making a difference to the lives of children and ensuring they have the very best opportunities throughout their time at Balladen. In my spare time I have a flock of chickens and two lambs and I am currently in progress of setting up a community learning area for children in the local area where by they will be able to experience the animals, and be able to learn how fruit and veg is grown by being in an outdoor setting. If I can make a difference to any child's life, how ever small, I will be extremely happy.

Victoria Strachan

I’m a secondary school teacher and hold responsibilities for pupil premium. My two daughters attend Balladen Primary School and are a leading factor, along with my passion for education, in me joining the governing board. I firmly believe that all children deserve an education which prepares them to be citizens for the future. The headteacher and teaching staff at Balladen share a vision which is steering Balladen in the right direction with a curriculum for all. I enjoy travelling, skiing, sailing and being outdoors.

I became a governor at Balladen Primary School as I believe primary education is the foundation for every child's future. I am particularly interested in reading skills for children. Since being appointed a governor in November 2021, and through my observations and discussions, I am confident that the Headteacher and his team, with their vision and plans, are steering the school in the right direction to benefit all children.

I have two daughters and five grandchildren, four of whom are at primary school age. As they all live away, I travel regularly to see them all which gives me great pleasure.

I have worked in the NHS throughout my career in clinical, teaching and managerial roles. I enjoy travel, music and the outdoors
